Myers-Briggs Websites

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a popular personality test that helps individuals understand their preferences and tendencies. It categorizes individuals into 16 temperament types that can lead to self-discovery and understanding of others.

However, the results of MBTI tests are not consistent. People may take the test on multiple occasions and receive different results, even if they have not changed drastically in real life. Research has found that over a period of only a few weeks, up to half of participants received two different type scores. Developers of the MBTI even acknowledged that in their sample, 35 percent received a different type after a four-week period.

The book The Spirit Within: A Meyers-Briggs Overview using 199 Famous Examples takes a different approach. It simplifies key concepts and then provides numerous examples from the lives of famous people to show subtle differences in the way people demonstrate the same trait. It will help you understand the test questions included in the book and decide if you:

  • Focus your attention outward (Extraverted) or inward (Introverted)

  • Are more interested in reality (Sensing) or imagination (iNtuition)

  • Make decisions based on facts (Thinking) or emotions (Feeling)

  • Like to plan ahead (Judgmental) or leave your options open (Probing)
