Misunderstandings about terminology
Even with the best intentions, the Myers-Briggs terminology can offend people.
Everyone is defined as either an Introvert or Extravert, but these labels bring thoughts of extremes. Being labeled an Introvert might lead someone to believe they are being called aloof or a wallflower, whereas the Extravert label can bring thoughts of someone loud, bossy, or overbearing. In truth, being an Introvert simply means preferring to look Inward, toward the Inner self while the natural activities of Extraverts are directed outward, toward the External world.
The terms “Judging” and “Probing” can also upset people. Not many people enjoy being called judgmental, which can mean having an excessively critical point of view or an intolerance of anyone different from themselves. I was in denial for decades about my true Judgmental nature because I was raised in a religious atmosphere that loved all mankind, regardless of differences.
The term “Judging” really means seeking closure and deciding if something is one thing or the other. The word “Probing” sounds intrusive, but it means enjoying the process of doing a task more than completing a task and experiencing life in the moment instead of planning ahead.
